Frequently Asked Questions
How do I book an appointment at Deer Valley Dental?
You can book an appointment with Deer Valley Dental by calling, visiting our dental clinic in Leduc, or requesting an appointment online. Our team will help you find an available time based on the type of care you need and your schedule.
If you have a particular concern, such as tooth pain, a broken tooth, or swelling, let us know when you contact us. Providing a little information about what is happening helps us determine how soon you may need to be seen.
If you need to change an existing appointment, contact our office as early as possible so we can help you find another suitable time.
What should I expect at my first dental appointment?
Your first visit usually begins with a review of your dental needs, health history, and any concerns you would like to discuss. Our dentist will assess your oral health, explain the findings, and talk with you about any recommended treatment options.
Depending on your needs, X-rays or other diagnostic records may also be recommended. In some situations, treatment can be completed during the same visit, while other procedures may need to be scheduled separately.
We encourage you to ask questions at any point during the appointment. Our goal is for you to understand your oral health and the options available before deciding how you would like to proceed.
What should I bring to my first visit?
Bring a list of your current medications, relevant insurance information, and any recent dental records or X-rays you have available. If another dental clinic has taken X-rays within the past six months, you may be able to have them forwarded to our office.
Please also let us know about medical conditions, allergies, previous dental treatment, or concerns that may affect your care. Providing complete information helps our dental team plan your appointment appropriately.
Patients under 18 should attend their consultation with a parent or guardian.
Do you offer emergency dental appointments?
Yes. Deer Valley Dental provides emergency dental care and makes every effort to see patients with urgent concerns on the same day when possible. Call us if you have severe tooth pain, swelling, a broken tooth, a dental injury, or another problem that cannot wait.
Other concerns that may require prompt attention include a knocked-out tooth, a lost crown or veneer, uncontrolled bleeding, or signs of infection. If you are not sure whether your situation is an emergency, call our office and explain what is happening so we can guide you.
Do you accept dental insurance and the Canadian Dental Care Plan?
Yes. Deer Valley Dental accepts most dental insurance plans, attempts to bill insurers directly, and also accepts eligible patients covered through the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP).
Insurance coverage varies from one plan to another, so the amount paid by your insurer may not cover the full cost of treatment. You are responsible for any portion not covered. Our team can discuss known fees and financial arrangements with you before treatment begins.
If you have CDCP coverage, let us know when booking so we can help you understand how your benefits may apply.
How much will my dental treatment cost?
The cost of dental treatment depends on the procedure you need, the complexity of your care, and any insurance or CDCP coverage you have. We will discuss treatment fees and financial arrangements with you before proceeding whenever possible.
If more than one treatment option is appropriate, our dentist can explain the differences so you understand what each option involves before making a decision.
Even when a dental insurance plan covers a service, there may be a remaining balance. Deer Valley Dental accepts most insurance plans as well as Visa, Mastercard, American Express, debit, and cheques.
How long will my dental treatment take?
Treatment time depends on the procedure and your individual dental needs. A routine examination may require only one appointment, while treatments such as crowns, root canal therapy, dental implants, or Invisalign may involve additional visits over a longer period.
Before beginning treatment, we will explain what is involved and give you an idea of how many appointments may be needed. Some procedures can occasionally be completed at the same visit as the consultation, while others require separate appointments for planning, treatment, and follow-up care.
Will dental treatment hurt?
We take steps to make dental treatment as comfortable as possible, but the experience varies depending on the procedure and the individual patient. Local anaesthesia and other comfort options may be used when appropriate to reduce discomfort during treatment.
Some tenderness or sensitivity can occur after certain procedures once the anaesthetic wears off. This does not necessarily mean something is wrong, and your dental team will explain what you can reasonably expect afterward.
If dental visits make you nervous, tell us before treatment begins. Deer Valley Dental also offers dental sedation services for suitable patients and procedures.
What should I do after dental treatment?
Follow the aftercare instructions provided specifically for your procedure, since recovery recommendations vary depending on the treatment you received. You may temporarily need to change how you eat, brush around the treated area, manage discomfort, or care for a restoration while your mouth heals.
For example, after an extraction, you may need to protect the blood clot and avoid disturbing the area, while after a filling you may be advised not to chew until the numbness has worn off.
Contact our dental clinic in Leduc if you experience severe or worsening pain, prolonged bleeding, increasing swelling, or another symptom that concerns you. Your dentist’s personalized instructions should always take priority over general aftercare information.
